Urban Design has great products specifically the Generac generators. However, in meeting The owner of the company, Sean, the office, technician Megan, and the technicians who come out and fix the repairs, The customer service they give is second to none. They are all very knowledgeable about their product and when you call in and have a problem, they will call you back immediately or as soon as they find the fix. My cabin is off grid so when I call people up from Chico or Susanville or red Bluff, there’s always the we’ll get up there tomorrow and you wont see them for two weeks. They will come up and do a half days work and you still have the same problem. Not these guys. So when you are thinking about your next generator purchase, I would highly recommend Urban Design. They are a 5-star quality business.

Receptionist Meghan & Technician Butch are both highly knowledgeable & personable. I highly recommend Urban Design if you own a Generac generator, as they are the only Maintenance company affiliated with the Generac Brand for your warranty to be acknowledged & accepted.

F.A.Q.’s
Yes. Standby generators should be serviced at least once a year, as recommended by most major manufacturers. Annual maintenance helps ensure your generator starts reliably, runs safely, and is ready when an outage hits. Skipping routine service can also create issues with warranty coverage—some manufacturers may require documented maintenance for warranty-related repairs, which could leave you responsible for unexpected costs.
At Urban Design, we offer annual maintenance plans and our Generator Assurance Program (GAP) to make service easy, keep your system outage-ready, and help you stay on track with recommended care year after year.
We strongly recommend that a standby generator be installed by a trained, qualified generator installer—not as a DIY project. A full standby system involves much more than setting the unit and making a few electrical connections. It requires proper site planning, code-compliant electrical and fuel connections, correct transfer switch integration, permitting/inspections, and manufacturer-required setup and commissioning.
Even if you have a trusted electrician, standby generators often require brand-specific training and activation steps to meet the manufacturer’s installation standards. If those requirements aren’t met, it can lead to startup issues, safety concerns, failed inspections, and complications with warranty coverage or manufacturer activation when service is needed.
If you’d like, we can coordinate with your electrician or handle the full install so everything is set up correctly, inspected, and ready for automatic backup power when you need it most.
Our technicians are Generac Premier Pro certified, and also certified to work on Cummins and Kohler Generators
